Coyotes & the Chicken Coop

Farm Nights: When Coyotes Come Calling

Life on the farm has its share of beauty… and its challenges. Recently, we’ve had a few uninvited visitors: coyotes sniffing around our chicken coop.

Out here, the balance between wild and domestic is always close. The coyotes are clever, persistent, and hungry. Our chickens, on the other hand, are part of our daily rhythm — they give us eggs, fertilizer for the garden, and a cheerful presence. Protecting them is both a practical and personal matter.

We’ve been reinforcing the structure, tightening up fencing, and working on creating a brand new chicken coop to keep them safe. Lights and motion sensors can help, but at the end of the day, it’s also about respecting that we share this land with wildlife.

It’s a reminder: farming isn’t just sowing seeds and harvesting vegetables. It’s a daily dance with nature — sometimes harmonious, sometimes a little stressful. But in the end, it is always worth it.
