Planting Bulbs

Fall bulb planting can be a great source for early spring flowers. Bulbs are among the first to flower in the spring, much earlier than annuals or perennials.  Tips for planting:

-  When planning on planting bulbs, deer populations are a important consideration.  If you have deer, you should not plant tulips, but daffodils are great because the deer do not eat them. 

-  Planting can be accomplished quickly with an auger drill bit or a trowel. 

-  Bulbs require at least 4 to 6 weeks of cold weather to bloom, so be sure to plant your bulbs in the fall!

-  Plant the bulbs about 3 times their size under the ground with the pointed end facing up (shown below).  Cover them with soil and wait for spring!
