Fall Mulching Promotes Root Health
By Tom Evans
September, 2009
Mulch tender perennials and shrubs in the fall for root insulation during the winter months. Newly planted trees also benefit from fall mulching. Mulching with bark or straw will help create a blanket of protection over the root system. Be sure that your tender plants are protected from frost. Should the weather get suddenly cold, place burlap, cloth or dark plastic over the buds and leaves of tender plants to give them some added protection from the cold. Be sure to remove this covering when the weather has stabilized! |

For more information about how to mulch for insulation on your own, or for an estimate for mulch installation and delivery please give us a call at (301) 253 9224. We carry a brown hardwood shredded mulch in bags or bulk and a black shredded mulch in bulk only. We also have straw bails available. |
